Are you looking for a rewarding summer experience?
Wild Canyon Discovery needs Summer Camp Mentors to assist with our Youth Paddling Camps. 
We have 5 different camps you can choose.
We need a commitment to work each day of a
multiday camp program.


We are a Utah Nonprofit organization, and we pay
$12 per hour for beginning mentors and
more based on experience.

We know this is not much, but we are a small nonprofit with a limited budget. We focus on getting youth from local
families out into the beauty of our nearby natural landscapes.

Our 3-day overnight camps will pay approx. $360 total.
Our 2-day/1 night River Camp will pay approx. $240 total.
Our 3-day Day camps will pay approx. $210 total.

Summer Camp Mentor - Job Description

We are looking for Summer Camp Mentors, 18 years or older, to help mentor and supervise campers at our summer youth paddling camp programs. This is a temporary, seasonal position that requires a multiday commitment, and some have an overnight commitment, as well. We want to make sure that our youth participants learn skills and have fun while they do it. Mentors are responsible for helping to ensure campers understand the safe and responsible outdoor exploration principles that will help minimize danger to themselves, others and the local ecosystem. If you love the outdoors and working with young people, then consider being a Camp Mentor at one or more of our youth camp programs this summer.


Responsibilities
 

  • Lead outdoor recreational and educational activities and camp tasks with groups of campers

  • Engaging youth in skill building activities and modeling responsible outdoor recreation behaviors

  • Educate campers through games, exploration and hands on experiences

  • Make sure all safety and outdoor etiquette guidelines are modeled and followed


Skills needed
 

  • Experience working with children, childcare and/or education experience: 1 year preferred

  • Familiarity with camping and other outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking or paddleboarding

  • Patient, reliable, and with organizational and communication skills

 

 

License/Certification:

  • Certified teachers with experience, preferred

  • First aid- and CPR-certified, preferred

  • Fingerprint clearance card, preferred

  • Background check is required and provided if applicant does not have Fingerprint clearance card
     

Summer Camp Schedule:
 

Our camp mentors need to be available for the whole program and will travel to camp with the group and camp overnight on-site with the group.

  • Lake Powell Youth Paddling Day Camp - Jun 3-5  (3-day commitment with approx. 6hr/day)

  • Lake Powell Youth Overnight Paddling Camp - Jun 9-11  (3-days/2 nights commitment)

  • Lake Powell Youth Overnight Paddling Camp - Jun 12-14  (3-days/2 nights commitment)

  • Colorado River Youth Stewardship Camp - Jun 17-18  (2-day/1 night commitment)

  • Lake Powell Youth Paddling Day Camp - Jun 24-26  (3-day commitment with approx. 6hr/day)
