We had an unexpected rainstorm with wind and a heavy downpour that caught us just as we were beginning our float down the river. The worst of it only lasted about 15 minutes. After that we were able to enjoy our journey from near the dam to our campsite at Ferry Swale. Just before we arrived at our campsite, the sand and mud filled flashflood from Ferry Swale Canyon reached the river, pouring over the edge of the hanging canyon and falling 300ft to join the clear water of the Colorado River right next to our camp. We enjoyed the roaring sound of the waterfall for about 5 hrs. that evening, until the flashflood died out. We continued downriver to Lees Ferry the next day, taking several opportunities to stop along the way, play on the beaches and hike in Waterholes Canyon. We will be offering this River Stewardship Camping Adventure again next summer, if you are interested.
